Suggested 10-Day Tanzania Safari and Zanzibar Itinerary
This suggested itinerary combines four safari days with arrival time in Arusha and a relaxed Zanzibar stay. Accommodation, flights and activities are confirmed in your individual quotation.
Day 1: Arrive in Tanzania and Transfer to Arusha
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, meet your driver for the transfer to your accommodation in Arusha. Settle in, rest after your journey and prepare for the safari ahead.
Your pre-safari briefing covers the route, departure time, luggage arrangements and any dietary requirements. Arriving the day before your safari gives you time to recover before starting the road journey.
Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Leave Arusha after breakfast and travel to Tarangire National Park. Explore a landscape of baobab trees, open woodland and river valleys while looking for elephants, giraffes, zebras and other wildlife.
Enjoy a picnic lunch during your visit before continuing your game drive. Later, travel to your accommodation in the Karatu area for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3: Travel to Serengeti National Park
Continue through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area toward the Serengeti. This is a substantial travel day, with changing scenery along the route.
After reaching the Serengeti, enjoy wildlife viewing as you travel toward your camp or lodge. Look for grazing herds and predators across the plains before settling in for dinner and a night in the bush.
Day 4: Serengeti Game Drive and Transfer to Ngorongoro
Head out for a morning game drive, looking for wildlife while the day is still cool. Your guide follows sightings and local conditions to make the most of the available time.
Later, depart the Serengeti and continue toward the Ngorongoro area for your overnight stay. Travelers who want more time in the Serengeti can request an extended private itinerary with additional nights.
Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater and Return to Arusha
After an early start, descend into Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive. Explore its grasslands and wetland areas while searching for lions, buffaloes, zebras, hippos and other animals. Black rhino sightings are possible but never guaranteed.
Enjoy your picnic lunch before ascending and returning to Arusha for the night. An overnight stay here gives you a comfortable connection between the road safari and your onward flight.
Day 6: Fly to Zanzibar
Transfer to the airport for your booked flight to Zanzibar. On arrival, meet your driver and continue to your beach accommodation.
Spend the rest of the day relaxing, walking along the shore or enjoying your hotel’s facilities. Your flight, airport transfers and hotel meal plan should be clearly listed in your package quotation.
Day 7: Zanzibar Beach Relaxation
Enjoy a day at your own pace. Relax beside the ocean, swim when conditions permit or spend time at your resort.
Your beach location can be chosen around your priorities, whether you prefer a lively area with restaurants and activities or a quieter setting. Swimming conditions vary by coastline and tide.
Day 8: Optional Stone Town and Spice Tour
Choose an optional guided visit to Stone Town to explore its narrow streets, historic architecture and markets. A spice farm visit can add an introduction to the island’s aromatic crops and their use in local cooking.
Alternatively, keep the day free for the beach. Excursions are optional unless specifically included in your quotation.
Day 9: Optional Ocean Excursion or Leisure Day
Spend another day relaxing or request a suitable ocean activity. Depending on your interests and local conditions, options may include snorkeling, a sailing excursion or a sunset dhow cruise.

Day 10: Departure from Zanzibar
