Why Choose a Private Photography Safari?
Photography often rewards patience. An exclusive vehicle gives your party more control over how long to stay at a sighting and which subjects to prioritise. Tell your guide whether you enjoy birds, predators, elephant families or environmental portraits showing animals within the landscape.
Discuss the number of photographers and the size of your equipment before booking. Camera bags and long lenses need space, so a smaller vehicle group can make shooting more comfortable. A wildlife guide is included in the proposed package; a professional photography tutor is a separate request and subject to availability.
Suggested 7-Day Photography Tanzania Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive and Prepare in Arusha
Arrive in Arusha and settle into your arranged accommodation. During your briefing, review the route, preferred subjects and equipment storage. Airport transfers can be included in your quotation. Charge batteries and prepare your camera bag for the following morning.
Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Travel to Tarangire for your first game drive. Look for elephant interactions, birds and compositions combining wildlife with the park’s distinctive baobabs. During the dry season, the Tarangire River attracts wildlife as other water sources diminish. Overnight near the park or in the Karatu area, according to your accommodation plan.
Day 3: Travel to Central Serengeti
Continue through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area toward the Serengeti. This is a substantial travel day, with an afternoon game drive as timing permits. Spend the night in Central Serengeti to reduce repositioning before the next morning’s wildlife search.
Days 4 and 5: Explore Central Serengeti
Enjoy two full days dedicated to wildlife photography. Early departures and afternoon outings can be planned within park rules, permit conditions and camp access requirements. Your guide will adapt the day to sightings and your interests, allowing time to observe behaviour when conditions permit.
Central Serengeti provides a base for big-cat searches and wider wildlife photography. Sightings depend on natural conditions; particular species, hunts and migration encounters cannot be guaranteed. Overnight in the same Serengeti camp for three consecutive nights in total.
Day 6: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Highlands
Take a morning game drive before travelling toward the Ngorongoro highlands. Photography time depends on your onward journey and permit validity. Overnight near the crater or in Karatu, with the location chosen to support the next day’s descent.
Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater and Return to Arusha
Descend into the crater for a game drive and picnic lunch. Photograph wildlife against the caldera landscape, then return to Arusha. Allow sufficient time for the road journey when planning onward travel; confirm a suitable departure flight with us before booking it.
Choose Your Photography Focus
| Your priority | Suggested adjustment |
|---|---|
| More time searching for big cats | Add Serengeti nights and reduce transfers |
| Elephants and baobab scenery | Add a second Tarangire day |
| Calving-season photography | Request a seasonal Ndutu route |
| Northern migration photography | Request a longer route with northern Serengeti nights |
| Wildlife and beach holiday | Add a Zanzibar extension and separately quoted flights |
Migration routes must match your dates. A Central Serengeti itinerary does not automatically include Ndutu or northern river-crossing areas.
When Should You Travel?
June to October is a useful planning window for dry-season Tarangire photography, when wildlife gathers around remaining water. Early-year travel may suit a southern Serengeti and Ndutu calving-focused itinerary. Rainfall and animal movements vary, so choose the region around your travel month rather than expecting the same subjects everywhere throughout the year.
What Does the Package Include?
Ask for an itemised quotation covering:
- Exclusive safari vehicle and English-speaking driver-guide.
- Accommodation and meals specified in the itinerary.
- Game drives and the applicable park, conservation and crater fees for the agreed route.
- Drinking water during safari.
- Transfers explicitly listed in your booking.
International and domestic flights, visas, travel insurance, tips, camera equipment, personal purchases and optional activities should be treated as excluded unless your quotation expressly includes them. Specialist photographic guiding and any commercial filming permissions require separate arrangements.
What Determines the Price?
Your cost depends on the season, number of guests sharing the vehicle, accommodation, park nights and route. Remote seasonal areas and fly-in arrangements can change the budget substantially. Send your approximate budget per person so we can propose a practical combination of location, comfort and photography time.
Plan Your Tanzania Photography Safari
