Discover Tanzania’s Northern Safari Circuit
Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro form a well-established Northern Circuit route, allowing travelers to experience several distinct wildlife destinations in one journey. Tanzania’s official tourism website features this combination among its safari itineraries. site.tanzaniatourism.go.tz
Each destination adds something different to your trip. Your guide connects these experiences by explaining animal behavior, identifying wildlife and helping you appreciate the landscape beyond the photographs.
Tarangire National Park
Tarangire introduces you to broad savannah landscapes, baobab trees and elephant country. Tanzania National Parks highlights its elephants and baobab scenery as defining attractions. TANAPA
Spend your game drive exploring different habitats, stopping for wildlife sightings and enjoying a picnic lunch. It is an engaging introduction to the safari experience.
Serengeti National Park
The Serengeti gives your adventure room to unfold. Rather than rushing between sightings, spend time watching wildlife and exploring the plains with your guide.
For a private itinerary, two nights in the Serengeti allow a full day of exploration between your arrival and departure. If following the migration is your priority, ask us to design the route around your travel dates and the appropriate region. Animal movements and sightings cannot be guaranteed.
Ngorongoro Crater
A crater game drive brings another landscape into your itinerary. Descend with your guide and explore its wildlife habitats before continuing toward Arusha.
This makes a memorable final safari day, though your onward travel should allow enough time for the drive back.
Sample Five-Day Private Safari Itinerary
This sample guided Tanzania safari itinerary adventure suits travelers who want Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro with a full day in the Serengeti. Accommodation and daily timing are confirmed in your individual proposal.
| Day | Planned experience | Overnight |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Leave Arusha and enjoy a Tarangire game drive | Karatu or nearby |
| 2 | Travel through the Ngorongoro highlands to Serengeti, with wildlife viewing after arrival | Serengeti |
| 3 | Explore Serengeti on a full-day guided game drive | Serengeti |
| 4 | Enjoy a morning Serengeti game drive, then travel toward Ngorongoro | Crater rim or Karatu |
| 5 | Descend into Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive, then return to Arusha | End of safari |
Day 1: Begin Your Adventure in Tarangire
Meet your guide in Arusha and travel to Tarangire. Your first game drive introduces you to wildlife viewing, safari etiquette and the rhythm of exploring the bush.
After lunch and further exploration, continue to your accommodation for dinner and rest.
Days 2–3: Explore the Serengeti
Day two includes a substantial road journey, so it is best approached as a travel day with wildlife viewing after arrival.
The following day gives you more time to explore. Discuss your interests with your guide, whether you enjoy photography, birdwatching or observing animal behavior. Your route will respond to conditions and sightings.
Days 4–5: Continue to Ngorongoro
Enjoy another morning in Serengeti before heading toward Ngorongoro. Your overnight location influences the next morning’s departure, so we explain the accommodation choices when preparing your quote.
On the final day, explore the crater before returning to Arusha.
Choose Your Safari Style

Shared routes have fixed schedules; the sample private itinerary above should not be assumed to apply.
Camping safari: Sleep in supplied tents and enjoy meals prepared by a safari chef. Public campsites have shared bathroom facilities.
