A Sustainable Sanctuary at the Edge of the Wild

Tucked near the remote Olkarien Gorge in Tanzania’s Northern Serengeti, Olkarien Eco Safari Camp is a soulful retreat designed for nature lovers, adventurers, and conscious travelers. Here, the Serengeti reveals its most untouched self—rugged, majestic, and alive with possibility. From the thunderous movements of the Great Migration to the quiet presence of nesting vultures along the cliffs, every moment is a testament to nature’s grandeur and grace.

Olkarien Eco Safari Camp invites you to experience safari as it once was—raw yet refined, immersive yet intentional, simple yet spectacular.

Eco-Luxury Reimagined – Living Lightly in the Landscape

Built with reverence for the land and designed to disappear into it, the camp is a model of sustainable comfort. Each tent is a minimalist haven, placing you close to nature without compromising on warmth or rest:

  • Comfortable canvas tents with cozy beds, natural fiber linens, and local artisan accents

  • Private decks offering front-row views of the gorge, plains, or dramatic escarpments

  • Eco-friendly en-suite bathrooms with composting toilets and solar-heated bucket showers

  • Solar-powered lighting and water systems to minimize environmental impact

  • Design that prioritizes ventilation, serenity, and a sense of place

Whether waking to birdsong or gazing at a star-filled sky, your stay is shaped by rhythm, respect, and real connection.

Authentic Safari Adventures – Untamed, Unscripted, Unforgettable

Olkarien Eco Safari Camp offers a unique vantage point for wildlife lovers and conservation-minded explorers. This is not mass tourism—it’s an intimate, meaningful journey through one of East Africa’s most biodiverse corners:

  • Game drives across the Northern Serengeti’s remote valleys and migration routes

  • Close proximity to the Great Migration’s dramatic Mara River crossings (seasonal)

  • Guided walking safaris in the Olkarien Gorge and adjacent highlands

  • Opportunities to observe rare species like Rüppell’s vultures and klipspringers

  • Deep storytelling from local guides who share ecological insights and ancestral knowledge

At Olkarien, you don’t just witness the wild—you become part of its ongoing story.

Bush Dining – Simple, Seasonal, and Soulful

Food at Olkarien Eco Safari Camp is wholesome, flavorful, and thoughtfully prepared to honor both health and heritage. Meals are shared in communal spaces or in nature, creating a sense of community and belonging:

  • Daily menus inspired by local ingredients and global simplicity

  • Picnic breakfasts, open-air lunches, and candlelit dinners under the acacia trees

  • Freshly baked breads, hand-ground spices, and lovingly prepared vegetarian options

  • Locally sourced beverages, herbal teas, and chilled sundowners

  • Personalized meal options based on dietary preferences and wellness needs

Here, nourishment feeds both body and spirit.

A Place Apart – Remote, Responsible, Remarkable

Olkarien Eco Safari Camp is set far from the Serengeti’s tourist corridors, offering a raw and peaceful experience that favors slow travel and genuine immersion:

  • Perched near the dramatic cliffs of Olkarien Gorge, a vital nesting site for birds of prey

  • Access to seasonal migration activity and rich predator-prey interactions

  • Low-footprint camp infrastructure blending seamlessly with the natural terrain

  • Operated in close partnership with local Maasai communities and conservation groups

  • Ideal for conscious travelers seeking meaning, solitude, and authenticity

It’s a safari for those who value experience over extravagance—and presence over performance.

Assad!

Very good safari road trip Great value for money. The organization by Kilipath was perfect: they were available, responsive, and everything ran on schedule. The team is extremely motivated. The jeep was spacious and comfortable, with power outlets to charge phones (although they didn’t always work). Our guide, David, was an excellent driver and did everything he could to make sure we were satisfied. He was very friendly and always in a great mood. The choice of lodges was excellent: spacious and luxurious. Lunches were very well organized, especially when eaten out in the middle of nature. However, we do not recommend the tent camp if you are looking for a minimum level of comfort (toilets, electricity). It also lacked atmosphere, even though there were many guests. Some light entertainment or welcome activity from our arrival around 4 p.m. until the evening would have been appreciated.Small bonus (or a big one in our opinion!): Kilipath gifted us a wonderful T-shirt!

A great experience for the whole family. We booked a three-day stay with Kilipath African Safari. Lydia was very helpful and accommodating from start to finish in planning the trip and arranging all the arrangements. After arriving in Arusha, we visited Tarangire on the first day, and the next day we drove to the Ngorongoro Crater with the same driver, Mayunga. We were happy that we were able to observe wild animals such as elephants, zebras, giraffes, leopards, lions, hippos, flamingos, buffaloes and others in their natural environment of beautiful nature. We were also lucky and saw the big five, although the rhino was very far away, at least that's what the driver told us. :) The driver was very communicative and was able to answer our questions about not only the animals, but also the lives of the local people, interesting facts from history and some information about tribal conflicts. On the third day, together with our guides Lydia and Geofrey, we visited the Materuni waterfall with a breathtaking view of Kilimanjaro. During the ride to the waterfall, we used the time to chat with our guides and learned a lot of interesting information about the life and customs of the people of Tanzania. After swimming in the waterfall, we visited a local village for lunch with a demonstration of coffee processing, including roasting and subsequent tasting. At our request, the guides took us to a shop with truly beautiful goods, where we bought local pictures in the Tinga tinga style. :) All services provided and arranged by Kilipath African Safari were at a professional level and we recommend this trip to the mainland.

10/10. 2-day Safari Tarangire NP & Ngorongo Crater We asked for a quote 2 days before we wanted to leave for safari, because we got led on by another company that charged double (1500$ per person) at the last second. Within 30 minutes of asking for a quote we made the down payment (yes we we’re skeptical but we had good faith) and I can assure you everything went as smooth as it gets. Plane tickets were booked within 12 hours (because of a national holiday otherwise it would’ve been quicker), and the Tour operator arranged every step of the way. Transfer from hotel to the airport and back, on time. Had an amazing time at the Tarangire NP and Ngorongoro Crater. Seen all of The Big Five and our guide Adam was amazing. Credits to him for being as excited as we were to encounter rare sightings as the rhino, as well as a family of elephants drinking and bathing in the same pool of water. 10/10 would recommend Kilipath Safari’s, we had an amazing time with them. See you in the next one! ALWAYS BRING BINOCULARS OR A FAR LENS CAMERA. (Iphone 17 pro or better will do as well)Ps. Posted the same review at safari bookings. Do your research to see if you can book directly with Kilipath Safari. (We didn’t)Ps 2. 2-day safari, the atmosphere was amazing, tanzania is warm & welcoming of tourists. Day 1 we had 4 people in a jeep, day 2 we had 7 (still enough room for everyone). Best for travelers who want to see more of what nature has to offer and are not afraid to wake up early for it.

Professional and punctual Really well organised, highly recommended. The vehicle is neat, the guide is thoughtful. The food is good although the first camp site needs a proper washroom facility.

Great driving, organization to improve At the end of September we participated with kilipath in a 5-day safari and the experience itself was unforgettable, especially thanks to our guide George, a really exceptional person: professional, helpful and very prepared. Thanks to him we were able to see all the Big 5 and fully experience the magic of the safari.Unfortunately, the organization did not live up to the quality of the experience. After paying a 30% deposit by bank transfer before departure, we were required to pay the remaining amount in the middle of the road via POS, without issuing a receipt.Due to the large amount, the transaction went pending pending approval, but the clerk continued to repeat the operation, generating more charges to the account. One of us is still waiting for a full refund. In summary, the safari was wonderful thanks to the guide, but the organization and management of payments should be more transparent and professional.
