Why Choose a Private Photography Safari?
Wildlife photography benefits from patience. A private vehicle gives you more flexibility to wait for animal behaviour, adjust your viewing position where permitted and spend longer with a promising sighting.
Your guide will discuss your priorities, whether you enjoy photographing elephants, big cats, birds or wide landscapes. Drives are planned around available light, wildlife activity, park opening hours and travel distances.
For photographers carrying several cameras or long lenses, we recommend fewer passengers per vehicle to allow more working space. Tell us about your equipment when requesting your quotation.
Detailed Seven-Day Photography Tanzania Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Arusha
Arrive in Arusha and transfer to your hotel using the pickup arrangements confirmed in your quotation.
Meet our team for a safari briefing and discuss your photography interests with us. Use the evening to charge batteries, prepare memory cards and organize your equipment.
Overnight: Arusha hotel
Photography focus: Preparation and optional hotel or garden photography.
Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, travel to Tarangire for your first game drive. Elephant families, baobab trees and river landscapes offer opportunities for both wildlife portraits and wider environmental photographs.
Enjoy lunch during the day and continue exploring before heading to your accommodation.
Overnight: Lodge near Tarangire or in Karatu, depending on the selected package
Photography focus: Elephants, baobabs, birds and landscapes.
Day 3: Travel to Central Serengeti
Travel through the Ngorongoro highlands toward Serengeti National Park. This is a substantial transfer day, with changing landscapes along the route.
After entering the Serengeti, enjoy wildlife viewing as you make your way toward camp. Afternoon photography time depends on road conditions, entry procedures and your arrival time.
Overnight: Central Serengeti tented camp or lodge
Photography focus: Open plains, wildlife in its habitat and afternoon light.
Day 4: Full-Day Serengeti Photography
Set out early, within permitted park hours, to look for wildlife in the softer morning light.
Spend the day exploring with your guide. Depending on sightings, you may photograph lions, cheetahs, leopards, giraffes, zebras or other wildlife. Allow time to observe behaviour and compose your photographs.
Choose a picnic lunch or a return to camp, depending on your accommodation location and agreed schedule.
Overnight: Central Serengeti tented camp or lodge
Photography focus: Big cats, animal behaviour and golden-hour scenes.
Day 5: Another Full Day in Serengeti
A second full day gives you time to revisit productive areas and explore different habitats without changing accommodation.
Your guide will adapt the day to recent sightings and your interests. Focus on birds, smaller subjects, herd interactions or wider scenes that tell the story of the Serengeti.
Overnight: Central Serengeti tented camp or lodge
Photography focus: Wildlife sequences, birds and landscape compositions.
Day 6: Morning Serengeti Drive to Ngorongoro Highlands
Enjoy a morning game drive before departing for the Ngorongoro highlands.
The drive offers a change of scenery from open plains to cooler highland landscapes. If crater-rim accommodation is selected, enjoy the views when weather and visibility allow.
Overnight: Ngorongoro rim lodge or Karatu accommodation
Photography focus: Morning wildlife and highland scenery.
Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater and Return to Arusha
Descend into Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive within the permitted visiting period.
Look for wildlife across the crater floor and use the surrounding slopes as a backdrop for your images. After your visit, return to Arusha.
Arrange onward flights around the confirmed return schedule. An additional night in Arusha can provide a more relaxed departure.
Photography focus: Wildlife portraits and crater landscapes.
Adapting the Safari to Your Travel Season
The standard route focuses on Central Serengeti. If migration photography is your priority, we can propose a seasonal route instead.
- Southern Serengeti and Ndutu: Consider a route centred on the southern plains during the calving-season period.
- Northern Serengeti: Allow additional days for a migration-focused itinerary in the north.
- Tarangire: Include time for elephants, baobab compositions and bird photography.
Migration movements depend on rainfall and grazing conditions. River crossings, births, hunts and individual wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.
What Your Quotation Can Include
Your personalized quotation will specify the agreed inclusions, which can cover:
- Private safari vehicle and English-speaking driver-guide.
- Accommodation at the selected lodges or tented camps.
- Park entry fees and the applicable crater service fee.
- Game drives described in the confirmed itinerary.
- Meals and drinking water as specified.
- Agreed airport and hotel transfers.
Flights, travel insurance, visas, tips, optional activities and personal expenses should be checked separately against your quotation.
How Much Does a Photography Tanzania Safari Cost?
The price depends on your travel dates, group size, accommodation level and route. Vehicle occupancy also matters: fewer photographers per jeep gives more space but increases the transport cost per person.
Send us your preferred dates, number of travelers and accommodation budget for an itemized quotation. If you want Ndutu, Northern Serengeti or additional photography days, include these preferences in your request.
Photography Equipment to Bring
Bring a camera you are comfortable using, a telephoto lens for wildlife and a wider lens for landscapes. Spare batteries, memory cards, a dust cover and lens-cleaning materials are useful.
A beanbag can help support a camera in the vehicle. Check airline baggage limits before packing large lenses, tripods or other heavy equipment.
Pack a warm layer for early starts and the Ngorongoro highlands.
