Tanzania Northern Circuit Safari Itinerary & Price Guide

Safari & Travel Tips

A Tanzania Northern Circuit safari brings together wildlife viewing, varied landscapes and accommodation options for different budgets. Whether you prefer shared camping or a private lodge safari, choosing the right route helps you balance your time, comfort and spending.

The Northern Circuit includes Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire National Park and Lake Manyara National Park. These destinations can be combined into a safari beginning and ending in Arusha. tanzaniatourism.com

With Kilipath African Safaris, you can request an itinerary based on your travel dates, preferred parks, group size and accommodation style.

How Much Does a Northern Circuit Safari Cost?

Your Tanzania safari itinerary Northern Circuit price depends on the number of days, whether you share a vehicle, and where you stay. A shared camping safari spreads vehicle and guide costs across several travelers. A private safari gives your group a dedicated vehicle and greater flexibility.

The following are previous Kilipath shared-safari price examples, provided for planning. They are not confirmed current offers; request a quotation for your dates.

Safari option Example route Previous price per person
3-day shared safari Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater USD 600
4-day shared safari Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater USD 740–770
5-day shared safari Northern Circuit itinerary, with route confirmed when booking USD 925–950
6-day shared safari Extended itinerary, with activities confirmed when booking USD 1,115–1,150

Private camping, mid-range lodge and luxury safari prices require a separate quotation. Confirm the accommodation, included transfers and total cost before paying a deposit.

Sample 5-Day Northern Circuit Safari Itinerary

This sample route suits a private safari and includes two nights in Central Serengeti. Shared departures follow a fixed schedule, so their overnight arrangements may differ.

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Leave Arusha in the morning and begin your safari with a game drive in Tarangire. Spend the day exploring the park, stopping for lunch before continuing your wildlife viewing.

In the afternoon, travel to your accommodation near Mto wa Mbu or Karatu. Choose camping or a lodge according to your budget.

Day 2: Travel to Serengeti National Park

Travel through the Ngorongoro highlands toward Central Serengeti. This is a substantial travel day, so departure time and stops should be planned carefully.

Enjoy a game drive after entering the Serengeti, then continue to your campsite or tented lodge for dinner and your first night in the park.

Day 3: Full Day in Central Serengeti

Spend the day exploring Central Serengeti with your guide. Having a second night here gives you more time for wildlife viewing and reduces the need to move accommodation immediately.

Return to your camp or lodge in the evening.

Day 4: Serengeti to the Ngorongoro Area

Enjoy a morning game drive, subject to your park-entry timing, before traveling toward Ngorongoro.

Stay near the crater rim or in Karatu. The overnight location affects both the price and the following morning’s driving time.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha

Descend into Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive and enjoy lunch before returning to Arusha.

If you plan to fly onward that evening, share your flight details before booking so your consultant can assess the transfer schedule.

Want to include Lake Manyara? Ask for an additional day or a revised route. Adding every park to a short itinerary can leave less time for game drives.

Choosing the Right Safari Length

Duration Suggested focus Main consideration
3 days Serengeti and Ngorongoro Compact itinerary with considerable road travel
4 days Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Good option for travelers with limited time
5–6 days More Serengeti time or an additional park More room to balance travel and game drives
7 days or longer A tailored route with longer stays Greater flexibility for specific interests

A longer itinerary is especially useful when your priority is spending more time in the Serengeti. Your consultant should explain how much of each day is allocated to driving between destinations.

What Affects the Safari Price?

Accommodation: Public camping generally costs less than lodges and tented camps. Lodge location also matters, particularly when choosing accommodation inside a park or near the crater rim.

Group size: On a private safari, vehicle and guide costs are divided among your group. A couple will usually pay more per person than a larger group using the same vehicle and accommodation category.

Travel dates: Accommodation availability and seasonal rates can change the total. Request prices for your exact dates.

Route and duration: Additional nights, park visits and longer transfers increase costs. A migration-focused route may require different accommodation and more travel than a Central Serengeti itinerary.

Flights and optional activities: Domestic flights, balloon safaris and cultural visits should be itemized so you can see their effect on the total.

What Should Your Quotation Include?

Before comparing safari prices, check that each quotation clearly lists:

  • Safari vehicle, guide and game drives.
  • Park fees and Ngorongoro Crater access.
  • Named accommodation or camping arrangements.
  • Meals and drinking water.
  • Pickup and drop-off locations.
  • Any airport transfers or hotel nights before and after the safari.

International flights, visas, insurance, tips and optional activities should also be clearly identified as included or excluded.

Shared Camping or Private Lodge Safari?

A shared camping safari suits travelers who want to manage costs and are comfortable joining a group with a fixed itinerary. Kilipath’s shared vehicles accommodate up to seven guests with window seats.

A private safari suits couples, families and groups who want a dedicated guide and vehicle. It also offers more flexibility when choosing accommodation, allocating time between parks or arranging a longer Serengeti stay.

For either option, ask about bathroom facilities, sleeping arrangements and the precise overnight locations before confirming.
