Recommended 5-Day Tanzania Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Your safari begins with pickup from your hotel in Arusha. After meeting your guide, you will drive to Tarangire National Park for your first game drive.
Tarangire is famous for its ancient baobab trees, large elephant herds and beautiful landscapes along the Tarangire River. Depending on the season, you may encounter lions, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes and many species of birds.
After the game drive, you will travel to your selected campsite, lodge or tented camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Tarangire Area to Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, you will drive toward Serengeti National Park through the scenic Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The journey offers remarkable views of the highlands and the endless Serengeti plains.
After entering Serengeti, you will enjoy an afternoon game drive while searching for lions, elephants, cheetahs, leopards and large grazing herds. You will then continue to your accommodation for dinner and relaxation.
Day 3: Full-Day Serengeti Safari
Spend a complete day exploring Serengeti National Park. Your guide will choose the best wildlife-viewing areas according to the season and recent animal movements.
Serengeti is home to the Great Migration and one of Africa’s largest concentrations of wildlife. You may witness predators hunting, elephants moving across the plains and thousands of wildebeests and zebras gathering together.
A picnic lunch will be served inside the park, allowing you to maximize your time on safari.
Day 4: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Begin the morning with another Serengeti game drive when wildlife is particularly active. After lunch, you will travel toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
The route provides additional opportunities to see animals and admire the changing scenery. You will spend the night near the crater rim or in the Karatu area, depending on your chosen accommodation category.
Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha
After an early breakfast, descend into Ngorongoro Crater for an unforgettable game drive. The crater supports lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeests, hippos and the rare black rhinoceros.
After lunch and further wildlife viewing, you will ascend from the crater and return to Arusha. Arrival is generally expected in the late afternoon or early evening.
