Explore Tanzania with Serengeti at the Heart of Your Journey
Serengeti National Park is known for its expansive landscapes and the Great Migration. Its varied habitats make it an important destination for wildlife travel and photography. Planning where to stay and how much time to spend there helps you make better use of your safari days.
A successful itinerary also considers the journey between destinations. Adding too many parks to a short trip can leave you spending much of your holiday travelling. We help you balance game drives, transfers and overnight locations so your route feels manageable.
For a first visit, consider combining Serengeti with Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire. Alternatively, a private itinerary can dedicate more time to Serengeti if wildlife photography or a slower pace is your priority.
Sample Five-Day Private Tanzania Safari Itinerary
The following itinerary is a starting point for a private safari. Accommodation and the daily schedule will be confirmed in your individual quotation.
Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Meet your guide in Arusha and begin your journey to Tarangire. Enjoy a game drive, a lunch break and time to settle into the safari experience.
Your guide will explain the day’s plan and help you observe wildlife along the route. Later, travel to your confirmed lodge or campsite for dinner and an overnight stay.
Arriving in Arusha the previous day gives you time to rest and prepare for departure.
Day 2: Travel to Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, continue towards Serengeti through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This is a substantial travel day, so an early departure helps you use the afternoon effectively.
Once inside Serengeti, enjoy wildlife viewing as you travel towards your accommodation, subject to arrival time and park arrangements.
Dinner and an overnight stay will be at your selected camp or lodge.
Day 3: Full Day in Serengeti
Spend the day exploring Serengeti with your private guide. Your route will take account of wildlife conditions, your interests and the location of your accommodation.
Discuss your preferred pace with your guide, whether you enjoy patient observation, landscape photography or looking for different species. Meal arrangements may include a packed lunch or a return to camp, depending on the agreed schedule.
Return to your accommodation for dinner and your second Serengeti overnight stay.
Day 4: Serengeti to the Ngorongoro Area
Enjoy a morning game drive before beginning the journey towards Ngorongoro. Departure timing will depend on your overnight destination and the confirmed park-entry arrangements.
Stay near the crater rim or in the Karatu area, according to your accommodation choice. Your consultant will explain the location and room type before booking.
Have dinner and prepare for the following day’s crater visit.
Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater and Return to Arusha
Depart for your crater game drive and explore its distinctive landscapes and wildlife habitats. Ngorongoro Crater supports a substantial concentration of wildlife and offers a different setting from the Serengeti plains.
After your visit and lunch, return to Arusha. If you have an onward flight, share the departure details before confirming the safari so we can assess the transfer plan.
Choose a Shared or Private Safari
Shared Safari
A shared safari is suitable for travelers who want to share vehicle costs and meet other guests. Kilipath’s shared safaris accommodate a maximum of seven travelers in a safari Land Cruiser, with a guaranteed window seat.
The group follows a scheduled route, so changes depend on the whole itinerary. Our standard shared Serengeti routes include one night in Serengeti. If you want two Serengeti nights or a route to Northern Serengeti or Ndutu, request a private proposal.
Private Safari
A private safari provides a dedicated vehicle and guide for your booking. It allows greater flexibility when choosing the route, accommodation and time spent in each destination.
This option suits couples, families, friends and travelers who want more control over their schedule. Tell us about your priorities early so we can design the itinerary around them.
Select Your Accommodation Style
Budget camping: Sleep in a safari tent at designated public campsites. Camping equipment includes a tent, mattress, sleeping bag and pillow. Bathroom facilities are shared, and a safari chef prepares meals.
Mid-range lodges and tented camps: Enjoy accommodation with private bathroom facilities and additional comfort between game drives. A tented camp differs from public camping: the exact facilities and room category will be described in your proposal.
Luxury accommodation: Request a selection of higher-comfort properties suited to your route and travel dates. We will explain the available choices and their effect on the quotation.
Accommodation location matters as much as style. Staying closer to your planned game-drive area can reduce unnecessary transfers.
What Determines Your Safari Price?
Your quotation depends on the number of travelers, safari duration, accommodation, travel dates and choice of shared or private transport.
Domestic flights, airport transfers and optional activities also affect the total. A longer Serengeti stay involves additional accommodation and park-related costs, which should be considered when comparing packages.
Send us your approximate budget so we can suggest a realistic option. Your written quotation will identify the accommodation, included services, exclusions and payment terms.
What Can Your Package Include?
Depending on the confirmed package, arrangements can include:
- Transport in a safari Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof.
- An English-speaking safari guide.
- Scheduled game drives and applicable park fees.
- Accommodation and meals specified in the itinerary.
- Drinking water during the safari.
- Camping equipment and a chef for camping packages.
- Transfers specifically listed in your quotation.
International flights, insurance, visas, tips, personal purchases and optional activities should be checked separately against your quotation.
When Should You Visit Serengeti?
Choose your dates around the experience you want. The migration moves through the wider Serengeti ecosystem, and its location is influenced by rainfall and grazing conditions. Your travel month therefore affects which area should feature in your itinerary.
Tell us whether your priority is migration viewing, photography or a general wildlife safari. We will suggest a suitable route, while recognizing that animal movements and individual sightings cannot be guaranteed.
