Tarangire Safari Ngorongoro Packages | Tanzania Tours

Safari & Travel Tips

Our Tarangire safari Ngorongoro packages combine two extraordinary wildlife destinations in one memorable Northern Tanzania adventure. In Tarangire National Park, ancient baobab trees rise above a landscape famous for elephants, lions, giraffes and seasonal wildlife gatherings. At Ngorongoro Crater, you descend into one of Africa’s most remarkable natural wildlife sanctuaries, where an exceptional variety of animals lives within a compact area.

These packages are ideal for couples, families, friends, solo travelers and visitors enjoying a beach holiday in Zanzibar. With options from two days to four days or longer, the journey can be adapted to your time, comfort preferences and budget.

Kilipath African Safaris organizes the complete experience, including private or shared safari transport, an experienced English-speaking guide, park fees, meals, drinking water and carefully selected accommodation. Whether you prefer a budget camping adventure, a comfortable mid-range lodge or a premium private safari, we can create the right package for you.

Why Combine Tarangire and Ngorongoro Crater?

Tarangire and Ngorongoro are different enough to make every safari day feel fresh. Tarangire offers wide landscapes, river valleys, baobab woodland and excellent elephant viewing. Ngorongoro provides dramatic scenery and concentrated wildlife on the crater floor.

This combination is particularly valuable for travelers with limited time. Both parks are accessible from Arusha, yet together they offer a rich introduction to Tanzania’s scenery and wildlife. You may encounter elephants, lions, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, giraffes, hyenas, antelopes and many bird species. The rare black rhinoceros may also be seen in Ngorongoro, although every wildlife sighting remains natural and cannot be guaranteed.

Another advantage is flexibility. A short two-day safari can cover the essential highlights, while a three- or four-day package allows a slower pace, more game-viewing time or the addition of Lake Manyara, a Maasai cultural visit, Materuni Waterfalls or another Northern Circuit experience.

Our Most Popular Tarangire and Ngorongoro Safari Packages

2-Day Tarangire and Ngorongoro Safari

This is the best option for travelers who want a compact wildlife adventure from Arusha.

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Your guide collects you from your hotel in the early morning. After a safari briefing, you travel to Tarangire National Park for a full day of game viewing. Explore baobab woodland, open savannah and the Tarangire River, an important source of water for wildlife. A picnic lunch is served inside the park. Later, continue to your lodge or campsite near Karatu for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha
After an early breakfast, drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend to the crater floor. Search for lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos and, with luck, black rhinoceroses. Enjoy lunch at a designated picnic area before ascending the crater wall and returning to Arusha in the late afternoon or early evening.

3-Day Tarangire, Ngorongoro and Lake Manyara Safari

This itinerary adds another ecosystem and provides a more relaxed journey.

Day 1: Travel from Arusha to Tarangire for a full-day game drive, followed by dinner and an overnight stay near Karatu.
Day 2: Descend into Ngorongoro Crater for wildlife viewing and return to your accommodation for a restful evening.
Day 3: Visit Lake Manyara National Park, known for groundwater forest, birdlife, monkeys and beautiful Rift Valley scenery, before returning to Arusha.

Depending on the season and your priorities, the third day can instead feature Materuni Waterfalls and a coffee tour, a cultural visit or additional leisure time.

4-Day Tarangire and Ngorongoro Private Safari

Our four-day private option suits travelers who prefer an unhurried pace. It may include an extra day in Tarangire, a visit to Lake Manyara, a night inside or near the park, or a cultural experience around Mto wa Mbu. Because the vehicle and guide are dedicated to your party, departure times and time at sightings can be adjusted within park regulations.

This package works especially well for photographers, honeymooners and families who value privacy and flexibility.

What Makes Tarangire National Park Special?

Tarangire is one of Northern Tanzania’s most distinctive parks. Its giant baobab trees, rolling hills and river system create a beautiful setting for game drives. The park is particularly famous for elephants, which may appear alone, in family groups or in large herds.

During the dry season, generally from June to October, animals gather near reliable water sources, often creating rewarding viewing conditions. Zebra, wildebeest, buffalo and several antelope species move through the ecosystem, attracting predators such as lions, leopards and hyenas. The park is also excellent for birdwatching, with hundreds of recorded species.

The green season has its own appeal. Fresh vegetation transforms the landscape, migrant birds arrive and many animals give birth. Visitor numbers may be lower, creating a peaceful atmosphere. Each season offers a different experience, so the best travel period depends on your interests.

Travelers should avoid wearing dark blue or black clothing in Tarangire because these colors may attract tsetse flies. Neutral, lightweight clothing is usually more comfortable.

The Ngorongoro Crater Experience

Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The descent from the highlands reveals grassland, forest, marshes and lakes contained within steep crater walls. This variety of habitats supports an impressive concentration of wildlife.

An early descent usually provides cooler weather, softer light and active animals. During your game drive, you may see large prides of lions, spotted hyenas, buffaloes, wildebeest, zebras, hippos and many waterbirds. Elephants are often found near the forest, while black rhinoceroses may sometimes be observed across the open plains.

Temperatures on the crater rim can be cold, especially early in the morning. We recommend carrying a warm jacket or fleece, even when the daytime forecast appears sunny.

Private or Shared Safari: Which Should You Choose?

Private Safari

A private safari includes a dedicated 4×4 vehicle and guide for your booking. It offers greater flexibility, privacy and control over the daily pace. You can spend longer at interesting sightings, plan stops around children or photography, and select accommodation that matches your preferred comfort level. Guides speaking French, German, Italian or Spanish may be arranged on request, subject to availability.

Shared Safari

A shared safari is a cost-effective choice for solo travelers, students and couples who enjoy meeting other guests. Our shared 4×4 Land Cruisers carry a maximum of seven travelers, and each guest receives a window seat. Shared departures follow a set program and use an English-speaking guide.

Both options include professional guiding and purpose-built safari transport. The best choice depends on whether you prioritize the lowest possible price or maximum flexibility.

Accommodation Options

Budget Camping

Camping brings you close to nature and keeps the overall safari cost lower. Packages generally include a tent, mattress, sleeping bag and pillow, as well as meals prepared by a safari chef. Public campsites use shared toilets and showers, and hot water or charging facilities may be limited.

Mid-Range Lodges and Tented Camps

Mid-range accommodation offers comfortable beds, private bathrooms and restaurant service. Lodges around Karatu and the Ngorongoro area provide convenient access to the crater while maintaining a relaxing atmosphere after game drives.

Luxury Accommodation

Luxury packages may include stylish lodges, premium tented camps, fine dining and exceptional locations. These options are popular for honeymoons, anniversaries and travelers who want additional privacy and comfort.

What Is Included?

Standard Tarangire safari Ngorongoro packages usually include:

  • Transport in a 4×4 Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof
  • Professional English-speaking safari guide
  • Guaranteed window seat on shared departures
  • National park and conservation-area fees
  • Accommodation stated in the confirmed itinerary
  • Meals during the safari
  • Unlimited drinking water in the safari vehicle
  • Game drives and activities listed in the itinerary
  • Pickup and drop-off in Arusha
  • Camping equipment and safari chef for camping packages

Depending on the quotation, flights, airport transfers, pre-safari hotels and optional activities may be included or priced separately. Your final proposal will clearly show all confirmed services.

What Is Usually Not Included?

  • International flights
  • Tanzania visa fees
  • Travel and medical insurance
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Personal expenses and souvenirs
  • Optional activities not listed in the itinerary
  • Tips for the guide and safari crew

As a general guide, travelers often tip approximately USD 10 per person per day for the guide and chef, but gratuities are voluntary and should reflect your experience.

When Is the Best Time to Travel?

Tarangire and Ngorongoro can be visited throughout the year.

June to October: Dry conditions, excellent wildlife concentration in Tarangire and popular travel months.
November to December: Short rains may refresh the landscape, with fewer visitors on some dates.
January to March: Warm conditions, green scenery and good general wildlife viewing.
April to May: The main rainy season may bring dramatic landscapes and attractive seasonal rates, although some roads can be muddy.

June through October and the festive season are often busy. Early booking is recommended when you have fixed travel dates or specific lodge preferences.

Starting from Arusha or Zanzibar

Most road safaris begin in Arusha. Travelers should normally arrive at least one day before a shared safari because departures are usually between 5:00 and 6:00 a.m. Private safari schedules may offer more flexibility.

If you are staying in Zanzibar, we can build a package with domestic flights to Arusha or Kilimanjaro, airport transfers and accommodation. An early flight can sometimes connect with the first safari day, but arriving the previous afternoon gives greater protection against flight delays.

At the end of the safari, guests generally return to Arusha between approximately 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. If flying the same evening, a later departure from Kilimanjaro International Airport is safer than a tight connection from Arusha Airport.

How Much Does a Tarangire and Ngorongoro Safari Cost?

The final price depends on travel dates, number of guests, private or shared transport, accommodation standard, park-fee changes and any flights or additional activities. Shared camping is generally the most affordable choice. Private lodge safaris cost more but provide additional comfort and flexibility.

For an accurate quotation, send us:

  • Your preferred travel dates
  • Number of adults and children
  • Accommodation preference
  • Private or shared safari preference
  • Arrival and departure airports or hotels
  • Dietary requirements and special occasions

We will then prepare a clear itinerary with the total price and inclusions.
